Experience Morocco’s south on a 4-day journey from Marrakech to the Merzouga Sahara and back, with two nights in the desert region. Travel from the peaks of the High Atlas to ancient ksars, palm-filled valleys, dramatic canyons, and the vast golden dunes of Erg Chebbi. Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – Dades Valley Depart Marrakech and climb into the High Atlas Mountains along the winding Tizi n’Tichka route. Pause at panoramic viewpoints before reaching Ait Benhaddou, the famous UNESCO-listed ksar. Continue through Ouarzazate, Skoura, and the Valley of Roses, surrounded by kasbahs and changing mountain scenery. End the day in the Dades Valley with dinner and an overnight stay. Day 2: Dades Valley – Todra Gorge – Merzouga After breakfast, continue through southern Morocco toward Tinghir. Stop at Todra Gorge and take time to walk between its impressive rock walls and enjoy the riverside scenery. The route then leads through palm oases, small desert communities, and Erfoud before reaching Merzouga. Settle in for your first night near the magnificent Erg Chebbi dunes and enjoy dinner. I recommend replacing the Day 3 section with: Day 3: Merzouga – Free Time – Erg Chebbi Desert Camp Enjoy a relaxed morning in Merzouga with free time to experience the Sahara at your own pace. Optional activities such as quad biking and buggy rides are not included in the tour price and can be arranged directly with local providers in Merzouga. Payment is made locally in cash. Later, prepare for your journey into the Erg Chebbi dunes. Ride a camel across the Sahara as the landscape turns golden at sunset, or request a 4x4 transfer to the camp instead. Try sandboarding before settling into your selected desert camp. Enjoy dinner, traditional Berber music, and a memorable night beneath the desert sky. For Exclusions, I would also use: Quad biking and buggy rides (optional, paid locally in cash) Day 4: Merzouga – Southern Morocco – Marrakech Start the morning with the opportunity to watch sunrise over the dunes, followed by breakfast at camp. Leave Merzouga and begin the return trip across Morocco’s diverse southern landscapes. Pass desert towns, valleys, villages, and mountain scenery before crossing the High Atlas and returning to Marrakech in the evening.
