Marrakech: Bahia Palace, Ben Youssef Madrasa & Secret Garden

Meet your licensed local guide outside Café Argana, close to the famous Jemaa el-Fna Square. After a short welcome, your guide will explain the plan for the tour and share a few useful tips before you begin exploring Marrakech's historic Medina. Please note that entry tickets is not included and must be paid cash with your guide. Begin with an outside visit to the Koutoubia Mosque, the most recognizable landmark in Marrakech. Admire its impressive minaret and learn about the mosque's history, its Almohad origins, and its importance to the city. The mosque itself is not open to non-Muslim visitors. Continue to Bahia Palace, a beautiful historic residence known for its elegant Moroccan design. Walk through its courtyards, gardens, decorated rooms, and reception areas while admiring colorful zellige tiles, carved wood, and detailed plasterwork. Your guide will share stories about the palace and the people who once lived there. From the palace, enter the lively Medina souks and explore the narrow streets filled with traditional shops and workshops. Discover handmade leather goods, textiles, pottery, lamps, spices, woodwork, and other Moroccan crafts. Along the way, you may see local artisans working and learn more about the traditional skills behind their products. Continue to Ben Youssef Madrasa, one of Marrakech's most beautiful historic buildings. Explore the central courtyard and former student areas while admiring the detailed zellige, carved cedarwood, plaster decoration, and Arabic calligraphy. Your guide will explain how the madrasa was used as a place of religious education and what life was like for the students who once lived there. If Ben Youssef Madrasa is temporarily closed because of a special event, restoration work, or another unexpected reason, the visit will be replaced with the nearby Secret Garden. Discover its peaceful courtyards, gardens, fountains, and traditional Moroccan architecture while learning about the history of this restored riad. Finish your walking tour at Jemaa el-Fna Square, the lively center of Marrakech. Take in the atmosphere of the square, where you may encounter musicians, storytellers, performers, food stalls, henna artists, and local vendors. At the end of the experience, choose one of the following: Return to Café Argana, the original meeting point. Continue to the Secret Garden: Your guide can accompany you to the garden, help you with entry, and give you a short introduction. You can then explore independently and stay as long as you like.
