Spend the night in a Berber tent in Merzouga and enjoy a camel ride at sunset. Begin your journey with a pickup from your accommodation in Fez. Drive through the Middle Atlas, passing by Ifrane, a winter ski resort in an un-Moroccan style built by the French and resembling a Swiss village. Stop at the cedars forest in Azrou to enjoy nature and feed the monkeys. Spend the day winding your way through the beautiful forests, springs, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and descend toward the Sahara Desert. Stop for lunch in the town of Midelt, famous for its fossils and rocks, then continue towards Merzouga on the road. Stop at panoramic viewpoints to see the vast palm tree oasis. Reach Merzouga in the afternoon and check into a traditional Kasbah at the foot of the Erg Chebbi dunes. After you rest and have mint tea, your guide and camels will be waiting to carry you across the sandy dunes of the erg-Chebbi. Enjoy the beauty of the sunset on camel, and after 1 hour, reach the desert camp to spend the night in a Berber tent. Unpack and have dinner while you enjoy the campfire and listen to traditional music. The next day, depart from Merzouga toward the day’s destination, Ouarzazate, traveling the rugged Road of a Thousand Kasbahs that rise like turreted sand castles along this ancient caravan trading route. Stop for lunch, walk in Todra Gorge, and travel through the Dadès Valley past dramatic escarpments. Reach your destination for the day in the afternoon, have dinner, and spend the night. On the last day of the journey, after breakfast, visit the town of Ouarzazate and its monuments, including the Kasbah of Taourirt and the Atlas Studios movie studios, the largest and most famous in all of Africa.
