From Fes and Back: 2-Day Desert Trip with 1 Night in a Desert Camp

Day 1: Fez / Ifran / Medilt/Erfoud / Merzouga The trip begins at the riad at 7:00. The drive takes you past Ifrane, a winter ski resort built by the French in the 1930s in a distinctly non-Moroccan style to resemble a Swiss village. Then, stop at the cedar forest in Azrou to see and feed the monkeys. Our journey across the Middle Atlas Mountains will be full of amazing natural sights. Most of the day will be spent winding your way through the beautiful forests, springs, jagged rock faces, and Berber villages as you cross the Atlas Mountains and begin to descend towards the Sahara Desert. Halfway, you will stop for lunch in Midelt, a town famous for fossils and rocks. Then, continue towards Merzouga, stopping at a panoramic viewpoint to see a huge oasis of palm trees. You will reach Merzouga at around 5:00 PM. After a rest, your guide and camels will be waiting for you to begin a camel trek across the sandy dunes of Erg Chebbi. Enjoy the desert landscape and sunset from your camel. After one hour, you will reach the desert camp to spend the night in a Berber tent. At your desert shelter, the camels are hobbled and mint tea is served. After dinner, watch the stars and stay overnight in the tent. Day 2: Merzouga / Tafilalte / Fez In the morning, you can get up early, walk over the dunes, and watch the sunrise from just behind the Algerian border, about 50 km from Merzouga. Take the jeep to the meeting point to meet the driver. We will head back to Fes, stopping to rest and have lunch. We will reach Fes in the evening, marking the end of the trip.
