Full description

Meet your local guide at Café Argana, overlooking the legendary Jemaa el-Fnaa Square, and begin your journey into the heart of Marrakech's historic Medina. Take in the atmosphere of the square while your guide introduces you to the history of Jemaa el-Fnaa and its importance as one of Marrakech's most iconic meeting places. From here, leave the busy square behind and begin walking through the historic streets toward the old city. Your first stop is a traditional local bakery, where you can discover an everyday side of Moroccan life that many visitors miss. Learn how local families prepare and bake different types of Moroccan bread and pastries using traditional methods. Your guide will explain the role of neighborhood bakeries in Medina life and how residents have traditionally brought their homemade dough to communal ovens to be baked. Continue your walk toward the magnificent Bahia Palace, one of Marrakech's most beautiful historic residences. Explore its courtyards, gardens, decorated rooms, colorful zellij, carved cedarwood, and intricate stucco work while your guide brings the palace's history and architecture to life. After the palace, return deeper into the old souks, following the winding streets through Marrakech's traditional market district. Along the way, discover the atmosphere of the artisans' quarters and see how the souks remain an important part of daily life in the Medina. One of the most unusual stops of the experience is a traditional Farnatchi, a neighborhood communal oven used for generations. Here, discover the story behind Tanjia, one of Marrakech's signature dishes. Your guide will explain how Tanjia is prepared in a special clay pot, traditionally filled with meat, preserved lemon, spices, garlic, and other ingredients before being slowly cooked for several hours in the warm ashes of the communal furnace. Learn how the farnatchi was traditionally used by local residents and why Tanjia became so closely associated with the city of Marrakech. Continue your walk through the historic Medina and pass near Ben Youssef Madrasa, one of the city's most important architectural landmarks. If you would like to extend your experience, you can choose to enter Ben Youssef Madrasa and explore its remarkable courtyard, student rooms, zellij mosaics, carved cedarwood, sculpted plaster, and traditional Islamic architecture. If you prefer to keep the tour shorter, you can simply continue behind the madrasa with your guide and discover the surrounding streets of the old Medina. Before heading back toward the meeting area, enjoy a final Moroccan experience with a sand-Coffee tasting. Learn about this traditional preparation method and watch as the Coffee is heated using hot sand before enjoying a freshly prepared cup. Your guide will also explain the important role of Moroccan mint Coffee in hospitality and social life. After your Coffee experience, stroll back through the Medina with your guide toward Café Argana
