Plan a day at Morocco's best-known waterfalls: the hike, the boat ride, the long drive, the best season and what each tour includes.
The Ouzoud Falls are a group of waterfalls in Azilal province that drop a total of about 110 m, in three steps, into the gorge of the El-Abid river. They are about 150 km from Marrakech, which makes them a full-day trip — and one of the most-reviewed tours in our entire catalogue. Expect olive groves, a path down to the foot of the falls, small boats under the spray and riverside restaurants.
What to expect
A standard Ouzoud day trip looks like this:
• Early pickup in Marrakech and a drive of roughly 2.5–3 hours each way.
• A guided walk from the top of the falls, where a dozen old mills are still in use, down a shaded path through olive trees to the bottom.
• An optional or included short boat ride near the base of the falls — check each tour's inclusions.
• Lunch at a restaurant by the river or on a terrace above the gorge.
• Free time for photos before the drive back.
Barbary macaques are often seen near the falls; don't feed them and keep food out of sight.
Best time to visit
Marrakech has a hot semi-arid climate. Average daytime highs are about 18–22 °C from November to March, 24–27 °C in April and May, and 36 °C in July and August, with almost no rain from June to September. Most rain falls between October and April, on about five or six days a month. UV levels reach 10–11 from May to August. The falls are at about 1,060 m, so it is a little cooler than Marrakech. Water levels tend to be highest in spring after winter rain and snowmelt. Summer weekends are the busiest time. Because the drive is long, choose a day with settled weather.
How to get there
Ouzoud is about 150 km from Marrakech and 36 km from the town of Azilal. There is no direct public transport that suits a day trip, so nearly all visitors go with a tour or a private driver. Our tours include the return transfer from Marrakech; the exact pickup details are on each tour page.
Ouzoud or Ourika?
Ouzoud has the bigger, more dramatic waterfalls but needs a full day with long drives. Ourika is closer, with smaller falls and more time in villages and the mountains. If you have time for only one and want 'the' Moroccan waterfall, choose Ouzoud.
Who it suits
Ouzoud suits travellers who don't mind a long day on the road in exchange for Morocco's most spectacular waterfalls, photographers, and families with children who are comfortable with steps. Because of the stairs and paths down to the base, it is less suited to visitors with limited mobility, although the views from the top are still rewarding. If you only have half a day, or prefer to spend more time walking than driving, choose the Ourika Valley instead.
A sample day
Timings vary by tour and are confirmed with your booking, but a typical day runs from pickup around 8:00 to a return around 19:00. Pickup in Marrakech in the early morning, then a drive north-east across the Haouz plain with a coffee stop on the way. Arrival at the top of the falls in the late morning, where your guide explains the old mills and leads you down through the olive groves. Time at the foot of the falls for the boat ride and photos, then the walk back up and lunch with a view of the gorge. Departure in the mid-afternoon and arrival back in Marrakech in the early evening. Because so much of the day is spent on the road, a comfortable vehicle and a good guide make a real difference — read the inclusions and the reviews on booking partner platforms when you compare tours.
Choosing the right tour
Of the 58 Ouzoud Waterfalls experiences in our catalogue, 4 are described as private and the rest are shared or small-group formats. 3 are multi-day or overnight programmes, 10 mention lunch and 0 mention dinner in their title or duration. 53 can be booked and paid online straight away; the others start with a request and an exact quote. A shared tour is the most economical way to go and a good way to meet other travellers; a private tour costs more but lets you set the pace, stop where you like and travel only with your own group. Whichever you choose, compare three things on the tour page before booking: what is included (transfers, meals, activities, entry fees), the total duration including the drive, and the cancellation terms. If two tours look alike, the one with more ratings on booking partner platforms has simply been taken by more travellers — it is not a ranking of quality by us.
Prices
Our catalogue currently lists 58 experiences for the Ouzoud Waterfalls. Listed starting prices run from €6.84 to €770.00, and half of them start below €19.18. Shared day trips are the most affordable; private transfers, guided hikes and included lunches raise the price. Every price on our site is shown in euros and is calculated on our server; the total you see before paying — for your date, option and number of adults and children — is the amount PayPal charges. Children pay 90% of the adult price on per-person tours unless the tour states otherwise.

Practical tips
• Wear shoes with grip — the steps and paths can be wet near the falls.
• Bring water, sun protection and a little cash for the boat, drinks or tips if they are not included.
• Expect a long day: most tours return to Marrakech in the evening.
• Keep valuables zipped away near the water and the monkeys.
• If you get car sick, sit at the front and take a remedy before the mountain roads.

How booking works with Amazouz Morocco Tours
Choose a tour, pick your date and tell us how many adults and children are travelling, with each child's age. Tours with instant booking show the full euro total and can be paid straight away by PayPal or card. Other tours start as a request: we confirm availability and send an exact euro quote, and you pay on your private booking page. Your booking is confirmed only after the payment has been verified — a WhatsApp chat or an enquiry does not confirm a booking on its own.
