Full description

This trip follows the classic route from Marrakech to the Sahara, with a more comfortable night in the dunes. Over three days you cross the High Atlas, follow the kasbah road through the south and reach Merzouga, where you stay at a luxury camp in the Erg Chebbi dunes. On the first day you leave Marrakech in the morning and climb over the Tizi n'Tichka pass, stopping at viewpoints along the way. You visit the earthen ksar of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage site, then continue past Ouarzazate to a hotel or kasbah in the Dades Valley for your first night, not a tent. Day two starts with the town of Tinghir and the Todra Gorge, which you explore with a local guide. You then drive east through palm oases to Merzouga. In the late afternoon you ride a camel into the dunes to the camp as the sun sets. After dinner you can relax by the fire and look up at one of the clearest night skies in Morocco. Your private tent with a private bathroom is included. On the last morning you ride back by camel at sunrise, have breakfast and set off on the long drive back to Marrakech, taking about 9–10 hours including stops. You arrive in the evening. Transport is by minibus, with pickup and drop-off in Marrakech. Your driver speaks English, French, Spanish and Arabic. Two dinners, two breakfasts and entry tickets are included. Lunches and drinks are paid on the way. Optional extras in Merzouga, such as quad biking or sandboarding, are paid locally. Bring warm layers for the desert night and light, loose clothing for the day.
